The sole provider of Lot 3 - Western Geotechnical Off-Track and Drainage - as part of Network Rail Wales and Western region’s £2bn programme of works. The Lot stretches from London Paddington to Penzance and involves the ongoing maintenance & renewals programme of civil engineering assets such as embankments, cuttings, scour protection, and earthworks drainage.
As part of the year 2 plan, we are currently looking to recruit a Design Manager to join the team operating out of the Bristol Office and be responsible the permanent works design subcontract packages to achieve delivery of cost-effective and compliant Contractor’s design within agreed timescales and fee budgets
Duties
- Facilitate review of design deliverables to ensure required compliance is achieved.
- Provide support to Contractors Engineering Manager, CEM, during design process
- Complete period dashboard, good understanding and use of excel, formulae , graphs etc and ideally power-bi or willingness to learn.
- Ensure all project trackers are completed, up to date and deliverables tracked as needed. Design coordinator is expected to support Design Manager
- Oversee fulfilment of Principal Designer, Common Safety Method, and Engineering Safety Management functions to the extent that Taylor Woodrow has relevant duties to discharge on the particular project
- Lead administration of design sub-contract;
- Lead administration of main contract with regard to Contractor’s design (raise Early Warnings, Compensation Event notifications etc.)
- Monitor cost and schedule performance of sub-contracted designers using EPPR proforma from Design Manager’s Toolkit (or project-specific EVM based pro-forma).
- Review subcontracted designers’ applications for payment and authorize as appropriate
- With support of TW and Design Consultant’s BIM specialists participate in development of project BIM strategy oversee implementation of BIM Execution Plan
Person Specification
- HND/Degree in an engineering discipline
- CSCS
- Understand the requirements of ISO 9001 with respect to design
- Understanding of NR/L2/INI/02009, NR/L2/CIV/003, NR/L2/CIV/003, NR/L2/P3M/201 and ability to manage works to these requirements
- Preferred Civil engineering background, experience of Earthworks and heavy civils
Preferred experience of framework environment, and experience of multiple projects over multiple geographic locations
